Payment of GWI Dues

CFUW, in an attempt to heal the divide between clubs and individual members of CFUW, have offered clubs the option to opt-out of payment of dues to GWI.  It is important to note that clubs, as a whole, may opt in or out, not individual members.  Members of CFUW-Haliburton Highlands have to the opportunity to vote if our club opts in or opts out.  In the end, the decision for the entire club will reflect the preference of a simple majority (50%) of votes cast by our club's members.

You now have the chance to cast you vote to determine if CFUW-HH will OPT-IN or OPT-OUT of payment of GWI dues.

A few things to keep in mind:

• clubs, as a whole, may opt in or out, not individual members.  
• all members of CFUW-Haliburton Highlands have to the opportunity to vote if our club OPTS-IN or OPTS-OUT.  In the end, the decision for the entire club will reflect the preference of a simple majority (50%) of votes cast by our club's members.  
• If CFUW-Haliburton Highlands opts-out, individual members may continue to belong to GWI if they join as an associate member of another CFUW club that has opted in.  
• Clubs will be given the opportunity to reverse their decision each year; that is to say they if CFUW-HH opts out this year, we may opt-in next year.

Below are the basic implications of the OPT-IN and OPT-OUT options.  

CLUB OPTS-IN AND CONTINUES TO PAY DUES TO GWI

• all club members will remain members of GWI and will be eligible to vote at the GWI Triannual General Meeting
• all club members will be responsible to pay the full amount of GWI dues; if dues exceed the $20.71 currently earmarked for GWI dues from the CFUW national amount of $76, you will have to pay additional fees to cover the difference.

CLUB OPTS-OUT AND DOES NOT PAY DUES TO GWI

• all club members will be removed as members of GWI and will not be eligible to vote Triannual General Meeting
• all club members will pay $76.00 in CFUW fees and $20.71 from each member will be held in a special reserve fund.  You will not be required to cover any additional costs if GWI dues increase.
• Funds collected in the special reserve fund will be used to further the CFUW mandate, locally, nationally, or internationally. How this will happen will be determined solely by the OPT-OUT clubs as a whole.  A process for the disbursement of money from this     reserve has not been finalized, however,  it is expected that it will be done by motions at the CFUW AGM each spring.

This survey will close on March 28th. Results of the vote will be announced immediately thereafter..
